Automatical draw after 300 moves.

How often do 300 moves occur?

Answer: once in a blue moon.

I am curious what the reason for this rule is? You would think that the normal 50/70 move draw rules should be sufficient. If pawns are moving/pieces are being captured, obviously progress is still being made.
