Thanks all. I feel better.
I haven't played chess in a long time, let alone online, so I didn't know if takebacks where part of the friendly competition or not.
Better to ask than assume.
I'll still offer a takeback, as sometimes I'm playing casually... but I shall be ruthless on the rated games. :D
I have takebacks off by default, however if my opponent makes an obvious mouse slip, not a blunder that they notice later I will change the setting to allow a takeback. This has only happened twice out of 200 games.
We should have a forum dedicated to this topic.
The only time I allow a take back, is when I'm unclear about my defense or attack in a situation. If someone makes an obvious error and asks for a take back, I'll allow it because I want the best moves from him to challenge myself to find the best moves.
So basically, only in situations I want to challenge myself further.
When my opponents ask me for a take back usually I grant it, but today I have seen a really bad behaivour. My opponent asked me for a takeback in rated game about 10 times and I allowed it. It was not a mouse slip or misclick. Take back for every bad move when he felt that the game is lost. It was over.I never ask for a takeback. I lost this game. I think its not a good idea to allow takebacks in rated games.
If I feel they made a mouseslip, I often give them a takeback.
If I feel they just blundered, I don't.
If someone asks you for a take back, he will soon ask you for money, then for your house. then for your girlfriend.
It's like when the hobby-players wanna compete with the pros and they're asking if they mind wearing arm floats and using support wheels because of equal chances.
Takebacks are fine. But only if isn't a rated game! :)
Well, if you play with your grandpa at home at the fireside it's ok indeed.
