I want to throw Ding Liren into the mix. I think, he could perform at least as good as Caruana did in the last cycle, and he has given Magnus a rough time in the past.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Firouzja. Is he going to be Carlsen's "Kasparov"? He's about the same amount younger than Carlsen as Kasparov is younger than Karpov. Carlsen's style is somewhat similar to Karpov's. I'm not sure how similar Firouzja's style is to Kasparov's but probably closer to Kasparov's than to Karpov's.
Whoever wins the 2022 candidates will dethrone Magnus, that will be one of the strongest candidates of all time
Nobody is going to dethrone Magnus anytime soon.
Magnus has not played me yet. I’ll give him a run for his money . In all seriousness Magnus is such a great player but Alireza Firouzja is another great player and he is so young to and another top rated player.
