Merida pieces without gradient

Original Merida font doesn't have gradients, but here on Lichess it does. I prefer the original clean look, but maybe others don't.

Anyway, I don't have a GitHub account to make a pull request, and highly likely it will be rejected, but I found "Stylish" browser extension that can be used to overwrite CSS on any site.

Here the CSS for Merida without gradient (I just removed the gradient from the Lichess SVGs with Inkscape): pastes.io/rf5orhtvsm

With gradient you see that piece color is not uniform, just like light effect
I think the black pieces may have been edited too, or at least need some further editing. The eyes of the black knight especially look too strong.

They might be unedited and it's just the contrast that makes them appear stronger. That is the benefit of having a gradient - it balances out the strength of each.

I personally like the gradient but believe Fresca to be a better execution of the concept. Before Fresca was introduced, I tended to play with Merida pieces.

By the way, Lichess's Merida are not a Lichess modification but one brought about by the creator of the piece set. The creator tried to update it at one point but it was unpopular with players too used to the set. See github.com/lichess-org/lila/issues/3318 for details. I'm not sure if any updates were ultimately made; for example, the queen was kept as before.
It's ok when chess sites/apps have custom chess sets and some modifications of a known sets, but they're de facto standard sets like Merida which is commonly used in books and available on most popular chess sites/apps in the unmodified form. On chess.com it's called "Classical" I believe, on chesstempo there are both unmodified "Merida" and a shadowed version like here, scid software has unmodified Merida, and so on, except Lichess where only a modification of Merida is available.
